Executive CEO of Answers in Genesis Martyn Iles has given his take on the controversial scenes during the Opening Ceremony of the Paris Olympics which have sparked outrage around the world after offending millions of Christians, Muslims and people of no faith.
The segment that provoked the biggest outcry related to what appeared to be a re-enactment of Leonardo da Vinci’s famous painting The Last Supper featuring drag queens, a child and sexualised imagery.
The French Bishops’ Conference said: “The ceremony unfortunately included scenes of derision and mockery of Christianity, which we deeply regret. We think of all Christians across the continents who were hurt by the excesses and provocation of certain scenes.”
Here’s what Martyn Iles posted in reaction to the global broadcast:
Regarding the Last Supper symbolism at the Paris Olympics
The participants in the real Last Supper were Jesus’ apostles.
The supper was to symbolise their participation in his death for sin; that they had been saved and changed because of it.
Their mission was world evangelism regarding this gospel of salvation from sin in Christ’s name.
Notice the difference in Paris:
The participants in the Last Supper have become unrepentant, proud LGBTQ people.
Jesus’ forthcoming death for sin is not a death for LGBTQ sin. They need no salvation nor change.
But their mission is still one of world evangelism – a pro-LGBTQ “gospel.”
Perhaps that is why there was a child at the table. The evangelism has begun.
This is nothing new. The rainbow itself has spiritual significance. Namely, as a symbol of escape from God’s judgement.
The rainbow says, “God will not judge us. There is no condemnation for sexual sin.”
They seek to rewrite God’s reality with mere flags and pageantry, for the sake of indulging lusts which last 5 seconds in the context of eternity.
It is pro-sin, versus pro-salvation from sin.
It is a spiritual battle against Jesus Christ and His salvation work for all who repent and trust Him.
