Popular actor Tim Allen has started reading the New Testament on his Bible-reading journey to read every Scripture for the first time.
He says he is already “amazed” by Paul’s letter to the Romans.
The Home Improvement, Santa Clause and Toy Story star has already read the Old Testament, twice.
“After nearly a year I have finished the entire Old Testament and the experience of re-reading, dedicated focus and no drifting has made this a humbling overwhelming experience. What a treasure,” he wrote.
“I AM AMAZED IN FIRST SEVEN PAGES OF PAUL’S EPISTLES”
“Finished the Old Testament and it is such a gift when I get out of the way and the words and meaning flow,” he posted.
“This week I am now in Apostle Paul’s letter to the Romans.”
“A Roman Jew familiar with Plato, Stoicism, and other Greek schools of thought.”
“I am amazed in seven pages!”
TIM ALLEN SAYS GOD RESCUED HIM FROM ADDICTION
The 71-year-old credits God for rescuing him from the depths of addiction in the 1970s.
Though raised as an Episcopalian, Allen previously opened up about experiencing a period of scepticism following personal tragedies, including the death of his father when he was 11.
In 1978, he was arrested at a Michigan airport with over a pound of cocaine in his luggage.
After he pleaded guilty to the charges, the actor spent two years in a federal prison during his mid-20s.
ACTOR VIEWS GOD AS “THE BUILDER”
In a 2011 interview, he described himself as a “cynic” who didn’t “like the idea of God.”
But over time, he began to view God as The Builder — someone he consults for purpose and direction in his life.
“I always do ask The Builder, what did you want me to do?” Allen said.
“And I do ask it. But you’ve got to be prepared for the answer.”
SUPPORT FOR TIM’S BIBLE JOURNEY
Many of his social media followers applauded his decision to finally read God’s Word for himself.
Comments included: “God bless you Tim & your journey.”
“You have blessed our family with joy and laughter for decades.”
“We pray that you and yours would be blessed 1000-fold with the joy and strength found in the Word of God as He leads you closer to Him.”
In reference to a line from Tim Allen’s Buzz Lightyear character one fan asserted: “To Corinthians … And Beyond!”
GREG LAURIE’S ENCOURAGEMENT
Pastor Greg Laurie wrote: “That’s fantastic, Tim! The Bible is God’s very word to each of us. The message of the Bible is really how we can come into a relationship with God through Jesus Christ.”
Tim Allen is currently starring in the sitcom Shifting Gears.
He plays a man who runs a vehicle restoration shop while still mourning the death of his wife and reluctantly taking in his estranged daughter and his two grandchildren.
