Following the recent jailing of pro-life protestors for blocking access to US abortion clinics, several pro-abortion activists could suffer the same fate. They’ve pleaded guilty to conspiring to intimidate staff at pro-life pregnancy centres in Florida.
The centres which advocate for abortion alternatives, became targets for the activist vandals who scrawled graffiti containing menacing messages across the buildings in 2022. It followed a news leak that the US Supreme Court was about to overturn the Roe v. Wade ruling on abortion.
The prosecution argued the action aimed to instill fear in employees. It included messages saying “If abortions aren’t safe then neither are you,” “YOUR TIME IS UP!!,” “WE’RE COMING for U” and “We are everywhere.” Three defendants could face up to 10-years in jail. US Attorney Roger Handberg referred to the protection federal law provides to both providers and seekers of reproductive health care from threats and intimidation.
Susan B. Anthony Pro-Life America welcomed the charges, while noting that most Congressional Democrats refused to condemn the violence against the pregnancy centres. President Marjorie Dannenfelser said: “These charges are good first steps, but the fight for equal justice is far from over. With a House GOP majority positioned to exercise its oversight powers, we are finally beginning to see some accountability. The pro-life movement is keeping a watchful eye on this administration and we will not be silent in the face of violence and intimidation.”
