Phil Wickham And Brandon Lake Concert Tour On The Big Screen

by | Oct 27, 2024

The two artists who headlined one of the biggest Christian concert tours in recent years say they aim not just to entertain, but to transform lives with the Gospel.

Phil Wickham and Brandon Lake criss-crossed the US in 2023 and 2024 as part of their Summer Worship Nights Tour, featuring their award-winning music and their testimonies about Christ’s power.

Fans who missed the tour or who want to relive it can now do so in American cinemas following the release of the pair’s  tour documentary called For The One which features highlights from their concerts and the stories behind their  music.

“Of course, we want people to be entertained if they’re sacrificing a lot for a ticket and taking time off, maybe from work, or going to work tired the next day, but we really want people to have an encounter. That’s what it’s all about,” Brandon Lake told Crosswalk Headlines.

The tour’s message is: For the one who’s far from God, or who needs a breakthrough, who needs to encounter this living God that loves them so much.

“That’s really what this is all about. Yes, we want them to be entertained, but we want them to walk out better than they came in,” Brandon Lake explained.

Phil Wickham recounted a tour story in which a “row of security guards, up in the balcony,” raised their hands, acknowledging they wanted to accept Christ.

“I was so proud of our concertgoers. The people that came to hang out with us,” he told Crosswalk Headlines after the  fans around the security guards “flooded them” with hugs and encouragement.

The singer added that such stories are not unique to any one night. “There’s a real spirit of family and community on the tour,” he revealed.

Phil hopes the documentary impacts people just as much as the concerts.

“I hope people in the church see it and get really encouraged by God on the move throughout the country, in the world, and in people’s lives. We’re all in it together, one big church, just taking ground for Jesus,” he declared.

“We hope that people get saved through this movie or recommit their lives to Jesus because it shouts a message to the world that the church is alive,” the worship leader continued.

In a world increasingly sceptical of polished messages, Brandon Lake told The Christian Post that worship music has the power to convey the Gospel in a way that resonates deeply with today’s young people.

“I think my generation and younger are less and less convinced by preachers and communicators that are communicating so slickly. God’s Word is authentic. It’s relevant. It’s complete truth. But I think it’s important how you communicate it so that you can earn people’s trust, That it’s believable. That you’re coming across as authentic,” he asserted.

The two worship leaders said they try to present a Gospel that is both simple and profound.

“That was one of the most beautiful things on this tour. We invited people to start a relationship with Jesus.” Brandon Lake reflected.

“You’re hearing me and Phil, who didn’t go to school for communication, necessarily. This is just coming from a dudebro who’s in love with Jesus and just wants you to have a relationship with Jesus because we know that that’s what you are made for. It’s coming across probably super broken and imperfect, if you’re comparing it to a professional communicator. But I think what I’ve seen is this generation is responding to the authenticity into the realness and the rawness.”

Despite their success, the duo remain committed to the simple goal that first brought them into ministry. Whether in an arena or a small church fellowship, they aim to bring people into the presence of God.

“We just want to see people encounter the presence of God, lift up the name of Jesus, see lives changed, to see our lives change. Those simple goals are still at the forefront,” they asserted.

“We were meant to thrive in the presence of God like lungs need oxygen. Our spirits need the presence of God. The world just needs to hear that North Star truth. And it’s such a beautiful thing.”
