Rowan Armstrong joined Robbo and Becci on Rise and Shine to explain why Operation Christmas Child is more important than ever this year, and to encourage us all to pack a shoe box and bless a child in a developing country!

October is collection month for Operation Christmas Child, which means it’s the busiest time of the year. 2020 has been one the charities’ most challenging years yet, but also one of the most necessary. We have all seen the massive impact Covid has had around the world, particularly on children.

Rowan says “There are challenges even with collecting this year, but we will do the best we can. The need is great, but so is the opportunity. People in developing countries have been impacted on a far greater level than we have.

They don’t have the healthcare systems we have, and we want to be part of helping their communities recover. Operation Christmas Child brings tangible joy and shares God’s love with the kids in these communities.”

So what can we pack in a shoe box this year?

Rowan suggests practical things like solid bars of soap, toothbrushes, combs and face washers. You can even include a good quality face mask that a child in a developing country may not have access to. Pens and pencils for school are also great, along with clothing. Rowan also recommends a “wow item”; something a child can enjoy and love like a soft toy or a soccer ball.

For more ideas, please visit here for instructions on how to pack a shoe box, and your local collection points.

Rowan continues, “Please maintain social distancing and remain contactless at collection points. We all need to be as safe as possible when dropping off boxes. If there’s not a drop off point in your area, please phone or jump on the website and someone will be able to help you.”

“We need more shoeboxes than ever this year. It’s not just about the kids, but these boxes impact families and entire communities, who all need some love right now. The best solution for your pain is to be bring someone else joy”.

Operation Christmas Child aims to share Gods love in our communities, and communities around the world. Take care to navigate the Covid regulations and help share the gospel with someone who may have never heard it by packing a shoe box. God will make sure it gets into the right hands.

Supporters of Operation Christmas child are looking forward to seeing the impact the boxes have around the world this Christmas.
