‘Let’s celebrate and be glad today.’ Psalm 118:24 CEV

Each day is a gift from God. Apart from your salvation, today is the most valuable gift you will ever receive. When you receive a gift, what do you do? Thank the giver, unwrap it, and enjoy it. Getting the idea? Make an effort to focus on and enjoy every moment of your life. If you tend to be a planner, take care that you don’t start planning the next project while you’re still doing the current project. Otherwise, it will steal the present moment from you.

Although being focused is good, it’s easy to get so focused on your work that you fail to enjoy the magic of the moment. For example, don’t get so focused on your work that you find it difficult to stop for a moment and enjoy the things that are going on around you. If your children are still little it’s particularly important to enjoy the cute things they say or do because if you miss these precious moments, you will never get them back. We should celebrate life and the people God has placed in our path. Life is to be enjoyed, not dreaded or regretted.

Solomon wrote: ‘Nothing is better for a man than that he should eat and drink, and that his soul should enjoy good in his labour. This also, I saw, was from the hand of God.’ (Ecclesiastes 2:24 NKJV) Note these two phrases:

(1) ‘From the hand of God’ means it’s God’s will for you to enjoy every day.

(2) ‘That his soul should enjoy good in his labour,’ means you must look for things to celebrate each day. And you can start doing this—today!
