‘Bring the entire tithe into the storehouse so that there may be food in my temple. Test me in this matter.’ Malachi 3:10 NET

God is a meticulous planner. For example, He scheduled a banquet called ‘the marriage supper of the Lamb’ around two thousand years in advance (see Revelation 19:9). He instructed Noah to build the ark 140 metres long, 23 metres wide, and 14 metres high (Genesis 6:15). He gave Moses the specific colours and fabrics He wanted used in constructing the tabernacle (Exodus 26). And look how precisely He orders the seasons and positions the stars. Can you imagine such a God having no plan for your finances—the product of your work life? Surely not! In Scripture He says: ‘I am the Lord All-Powerful, and I challenge you to put Me to the test. Bring the entire ten percent into the storehouse, so there will be food in My house. Then I will open the windows of Heaven and flood you with blessing after blessing.’ The original word for ‘entire’ is ‘unbroken’; that means before taxes and other deductions. Why? Because He wants to be first, not last, in our lives in everything—including our finances. Tithing isn’t primarily about money; it’s about faith and obedience and our attitude to God as well as towards the very thing that is most likely to take over His place as Lord in our lives. You say: ‘But I can’t afford it while I have a mortgage.’ You mean: ‘My house is more important to me than God.’ When you put money in its rightful place, you can expect God’s blessings to pour out as He promised. You can live under an open heaven; the choice is yours. God says, ‘Test Me in this.’ Put God to the test and see what happens!
