Pam from Rockhampton has battled cancer twice now, but is doing well. She called into Visionathon to donate on her birthday, because Vision has meant so much to her throughout her journey.
Pam praises God for containing her cancer, and says that it was a scripture she heard on Vision that prompted her to deal with a difficult relationship with her mother, and eventually forgive her.
Pam has been listening to Vision for over 20 years now, and says it has seen her through all the ups and downs of life, especially her battle with cancer.
Several years ago now, Pam heard Isaiah 49 quoted on Vision radio, and it prompted her to address some issues in her relationship with her mother, who was a Jehovah’s Witness at the time.
Pam and her husband had only been married for 10 months when her parents divorced. ‘There was a journey in that,’ she says. ‘There’s a lot of emotional stuff that you have to go through, and unforgiveness can be a part of that due to circumstances you have no control over.’
The Lord really spoke to Pam through that verse, and she realised that forgiving her mother was not something she could do in her own strength. ‘I said, Lord, I am I am forgiving on the basis that you have forgiven me. I honestly believe that forgiveness is like the layers of an onion. Sometimes you can deal with it to a degree, but then later on God says, I want you to deal with it properly.’
Pam has donated to Visionathon because she appreciates the word of God that she hears through the radio. Even though her mother was a Jehovah’s Witness for some time, Pam found ways to honour her with gifts every time she visited.
‘I honoured her in my heart on special days,’ says Pam, ‘But especially every time I saw her. I honoured her because she’s my mum.’
